En gelukkig vond Nina het goed en stuurde me een doosje met armbanden. Ondertussen vulde ik een krat met knip- en verf- en plakspullen uit mijn eigen collectie en ik riep steeds ‘insjallah’ als het ging over de vrijgezellendag, want als het slecht met de pa van P. zou gaan, dan had ik het afgelopen weekend in het ziekenhuis in plaats van in een huisje aan zee doorgebracht. Maar ik mocht erbij zijn zaterdag. En het was fijn om te merken dat het leven gewoon aan alle kanten doorgaat. Mijn schoonvaders ligt met slechte vooruitzichten in het ziekenhuis, de moeder van S. ligt met een zware hernia thuis, vriendinnen gaan trouwen en andere vriendinnen werden moeder of zijn zwanger. Het leven gaat door. Gewoon. Omdat het niet anders kan. En hoe mooi is dat? Ik zat met 10 verschillende vrouwen aan een tafel en het enige waar wij ons op dat moment druk om konden maken was; wat voor een armband zal ik eens gaan creëren? En nu maakt Nina miniatuur-kunstwerkjes op een houten armband, maar dit soort hoogstandjes waren niet echt mogelijk tijdens de vrijgezellendag. Want de meeste vrouwen, inclusief mijzelf, waren op dat moment beter in het nuttigen van wat glazen Prosecco dan in het stabiel vasthouden van een penseel. Maar gelukkig bevond zich tussen de ontwerpen van Nina ook een wat ietwat haalbaarder plan; de poëzieplaatjes-armband! Dus de meesten van ons waagden zich daaraan. En het werden mooie armbanden. En een hele mooie dag.
